Introduction
Welcome to
the research group for Logic and Natural Language at the Department of
Informatics, University
of Oslo.
We are
interested in logic in all its aspects, from theoretical mathematical logic and
proof theory to applications in computer science, artificial intelligence and
linguistics. And we are interested in the processing of natural languages by
computers, also called computational linguistics. Our interests in this field
span from fundamental studies with basis in logic to applications like machine
translation. You will get more of an impression if you read our research pages.
Both logic
and computational linguistics are interdisciplinary fields. Logic has been of
interest to philosophers and mathematicians long before the computer age; while
computational linguistics combine insights from linguistics, logic and computer
science. The group has the primary responsibility for the bachelor and masters
programs in IT – language, logic, psychology, where we collaborate with several
other departments, in particular the psychologists.
